ASTIER de VILLATTE

The only ceramic brand with a studio in Paris Villatte(Astier de Villatte).
Founded in 1996 by designers Ivan Pericoli and Benoit Astier de Villatte, the company is run by the descendants of the Astier de Villatte family, an old French artistic family with a centuries-old history in France, and their exceptional fellow artists. The delicate yet powerful tableware they create is inspired by traditional tableware from the 19th century and things forgotten by people, creating new designs that are unique to Astier de Villatte.

Astier de Villatte's pottery, which has a unique texture created by applying their characteristic white glaze to a black clay base, is a daring pursuit of beauty. The finish used for engraving is slightly rougher.Using clay mined in the Île-de-France suburbs of Paris, each piece is handmade by a skilled artisan using traditional French techniques handed down for generations, without the use of machines. Simple, classic, modern. The ceramics change from time to time, just like the objects themselves. By making use of characteristics that would normally be considered defects, such as the distortion and wobbling that are unique to handmade products, traces of black bubbles, and uneven coloring, these imperfections are what make Astier de Villatte unique, with no two pieces having the same expression, and are the unique charm of the brand.

Their talents are not limited to ceramics, but they have also created glassware, cutlery, stationery, furniture, and fragrance products such as candles, incense, and perfumes, creating collections that convey their unique worldview.

[Features and quality]

Please note that we cannot accept returns or exchanges due to the following characteristics or quality issues.

  • The surface finish and texture will vary depending on how the glaze is applied and the condition of the clay.
There may be individual differences in shape distortion, wobbling, rattling, small black spots (iron spots), small impurities, unevenness of the surface, thickness, air bubbles, pinholes (small holes or dents), kiln marks, glaze loss, and glaze shade (color unevenness).
Please understand that this is a unique feature and characteristic of Astier de Villatte, which is made by hand by artisans.
  • Some items may have 3 or 4 missing pieces of glaze on the bottom or back of the product. These are glaze losses that occur during the manufacturing process and are not defects.

  • When pouring hot water into pottery, crazing (Pattern-like cracks on the surface of ceramics) may be included.
  • Although it is possible to use a microwave or dishwasher, we recommend that you refrain from doing so in order to prevent deterioration and extend the life of the product.
